Ara: Fed up of the false promises made by their representatives, over 30,000 voters belonging to several villages in Bhojpur district have decided to either boycott the assembly election or press the ‘None of the above’ (NOTA) button this year.
In the last assembly election, netas had promised good roads, 24x7 electricity, drinking water, irrigation facility, opening of medical and engineering colleges at Ara, making Jagdishpur, birthplace of Babu Kuer Singh, a tourist place and linking it with railway route.
However, none of these promises were fulfilled.
Political parties are trying to project development as their main electoral plank, not only to woo voters but also outwit their rivals during electioneering. Politics has shifted from caste factor to development as both
NDA and the Mahagathbandhan are focusing on development issues.
CM Nitish Kumar is being portrayed as ‘vikash purush’ while the NDA is telling people that whatever development took place in the state was because of
BJP’s alliance with JD(U).
Voters from more than 24 villages, including Ugana, Palia, Shivpur, Vishambharpur, Bhairodih, Lachchhidih, Dilia, Budhubhai, Narainpur Rupbandh, Khagada, Ramkopa, Kushaha Tola, Ganpat Tola, Araula, Shivpur, Bodhatola, Lakshi Tola, Salakhana, Budhraitola, Dhanpura, Mahuary, Puraini Jaitpura, Mukundpur, Harpur, Thakuri, Madraha, Dhruvdiha, Chandiha, Dubeya, Faleya, Madai, Tinkarawa Tola Chasi Dhakani and Lasadhi have decided either to boycott the election or press NOTA button in protest against alleged indifferent attitude of their representatives. Farmers Ranjit Singh, Vimal Yadav and Bhola Singh said they felt cheated as their representatives did nothing for development in the district. The poor condition of roads has made it difficult for poll and security personnel to reach their respective destinations.
Students rued that despite making tall promises, their representatives failed to open up medical and engineering colleges, modernise the Sone canals, improve road, electricity and water supply. “CMs, right from Sri Krishna Sinha to Nitish Kumar, had promised to link Jagdishpur with rail line and declare it as a tourist place, but nothing happened,” they said.
